GENERAL

Wood Armor is a unique two-component product designed for use with a suitable wood sealer to provide an exceptionally hard, chemical and water resistant coating for all types of wood products. Wood Armor provides unparalleled protection against solvents, acids and other chemicals which easily damage regular wood coatings.

Wood Armor should be used with a suitable wood sealer. The sealer provides a flexible base upon which Wood Armor rests. Coatings which may be used as a sealer under Wood Armor include: solvent based conversion varnishes and lacquers, as well as water based acrylic or urethane coatings. One or two sealer coats should be applied before Wood Armor is applied. Wood Armor will adhere tightly to oil and water based urethanes, Tung oil, linseed oil, epoxy paints, mineral oils and most latex paints and enamels.

APPLICATION:

For best results, Wood Armor should be applied with a spray gun. An hvlp cup gun will give the best results. The best tip size is a 1.4 tip. Spray a very light coat of Wood Armor over the sealant. A second coat may be applied; however, that is rarely needed. A dry film of about 1.0 mil is the optimum film thickness for Wood Armor.

Wood Armor may also be applied with a very high quality brush; however, brush strokes might be evident after Wood Armor has cured. Remove brush strokes by buffing the final coat of Wood Armor.

For outdoor applications, the sealer coat must be suitable for outdoor applications. For this reason, Kinloch recommends a UV resistant water based polyurethane for the sealer coat. Conversion varnishes and lacquers are not suitable for exterior application. To achieve a brilliant shine, buff Wood Armor with a standard automotive buffing compound.

SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION:

Wood Armor can be applied over stained or unstained wood surfaces. Prepare the wood surface as required by the stain and seal coat instructions. Apply and allow for the seal coat to fully dry. Fast curing seal coats are recommended for use with Wood Armor such as two component solvent or water based urethanes. Lightly abrade the sealer surface with 320 or 400 grit sand paper. Use a treated tack cloth to remove any stray dust. Combine equal quantities of Wood Armor and Wood Armor Catalyst. Stir gently for about a minute.

Apply a thin coat of Wood Armor and let dry for 15 to 30 minutes before applying a second coat. No sanding is required between the first and second coat of Wood Armor. Allow to cure about 24 hours before sanding or buffing. Wood Armor has full chemical resistance and hardness in 7 days.
